How to fix crashes, blackscreen, low FPS/lags and etc in Watch Dogs 2?

Released in 2014 original Watch dogs 2 made a lot of noise back in the days. Players who watched different presentations on the E3 with excitement awaited this game. To be honest, the first game was not the best game ever, but game found its fanbase. Many players were really upset with graphics in Watch Dogs, which was a lot better on E3. Two years later happens release of Watch Dogs 2.

Watch Dogs 2 have many different improvements in gameplay, graphics, sound and etc. if you start comparing it with the first game. Especially if you compare levels of optimization between this games. But, nevertheless, Watch dogs 2 still has some issue: crashes, blackscreen, low FPS/lags and etc.

Watch Dogs 2 crashes at start up

First things first, you need to update your video card driver. Your manufacturer already has released a new version of driver. Just download drivers and install them. You can use this links:

Watch Dogs 2 doesn’t start up

You should verify integrity of game cache. To make this verifying:

  • Find Watch Dogs 2 in your Steam library.
  • Press on it with right mouse and click on “Properties”.
  • Proceed to “Local files”.
  • Press on “verify integrity of game cache…”.

Also disable video capture software, like Fraps, MSI AfterBurner, D3DGear.

Make sure that your resolution in game matches with resolution of your monitor. If you using Nvidia DSR, try to disable it and when launch the game. If you’re using HDMI, try to disable it and then start up Watch Dogs 2. Wait a few minutes and plug in it back. That should help.

Low FPS/lags and stuttering in Watch Dogs 2

As already mentioned above, you just need to update the drivers for your video card. Use the links in the first problem and install them. Most likely this will increase FPS on a couple of frames.

Also, you can follow these steps to raise the FPS:

  • If you are the owner of AMD card, turn off the Raptr utility. Also set the value of “Tessellation mode – 8x / 16x» and «Texture filtering – Performance” in the Crimson utility.
  • If you are the owner of Nvidia cards, go to the “Nvidia Control Panel” – “3D Settings” – “Power control mode” and set to “Maximum performance “.
