How to fix the error “Failed to allocate video memory” in Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

If you encounter a “Failed to allocate video memory” error, here’s what you should do:

  • Start the game
  • Enter the video settings
  • Set the borderless window mode

That’s it, the problem must be solved!

Whoever wrote this needs a good slap. You can’t get to the video settings because the error causes the game to shut down on launch…

To actually fix this issue, you’ll need to browse to “..\\Saved Games\MachineGames\Wolfenstein II The New Colossus\base\”, open “Wolfenstein II The New ColossusConfig.local” and replace the contents with the contents of “initial_video_low.cfg” in “..\\Wolfenstein II The New Colossus\base\.” Doing so will reset your video settings to the lowest preconfigured settings. Borderless window mode will not solve the problem. The real solution is either run the game at lower settings or upgrade to a video card with more VRAM.
