How to Fix Activation Error 0xC004F211 on Windows 10?

Activation error 0xC004F211 popped up after buying new hardware. It’s funny, ’cause my Windows 10 is not pirated, but quite licensed. As for the new hardware, I bought a processor and motherboard. Same drive, same OS, so I don’t understand why the license is gone. In Windows Update there’s a message saying that Windows noticed the hardware change– so what? I’m not allowed to change my PC now?

Solution

The 0xC004F211 error is a frequent occurrence among users who have decided to buy new hardware for their PCs. It is important to note that the Windows license key is tied to the computer’s motherboard during activation. Simply put, one key can be activated only on one motherboard.

What can be done? Bring the old motherboard back to the PC and unbind the key. Then return to the new motherboard and activate the license key on it in the corresponding system settings menu.

If you are not able to do it yourself, make sure to contact Microsoft technical support. Perhaps, during negotiations with them, they will simply decide to send you another key. Of course, this will happen only if you can prove that you purchased a previous license. And sometimes it’s not that easy to do.
