How to Fix Modern Warfare 2 0x887a0005 Error

While playing MW2, the 0x887a0005 error appeared. It says something about the integrity of the game files (???), but I’m not good at it, so I decided it was better to ask someone for advice, just in case. I’m playing on a Windows 10 PC, GTX 1660, Ryzen 5 1600 and 16GB 2400. MW2 just recently installed.

Solution

0x887a0005 is a PC-exclusive error for Modern Warfare 2. It mainly occurs on the equipment selection screen or on the map loading screen. In some cases the game doesn’t even have the time to load in the main menu – it crashes to Desktop.

To get rid of error 0x887a0005 in MW2 you can try the following:

• Check the integrity of Modern Warfare 2 game files. Open your personal Steam game library and go to the MW2 properties. Then go to the Local Files tab and click the Verify integrity of game files button. Restoring potentially corrupted files may take some time – wait.
• Deactive Nvidia Ansel. To everyone’s surprise, error 0x887a0005 in MW2 can be caused by Nvidia Ansel software. You can try to deactivate this software, but unfortunately it’s not that easy to do. Go to \System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_d223212c0a2275b5\ and delete NvCamera folder. Now open the command line (from admin) and run the command NvCameraEnable.exe off.
